Project summary:

The COFA project brings together 6 partners, including research institutions and industrial companies from three European countries.
COFA is an initiative aimed at developing comprehensive and sustainable solutions for the reclamation of post-mining areas, transforming them into productive agricultural land. The project seeks to improve soil quality, contribute to carbon neutrality, and support local economic and social development in coal-transition regions.
The project explores the potential of post-industrial lands for agricultural production, the cultivation of energy crops, and plant species with high CO2 sequestration capacity in Poland, Greece, and the Czechia. It also focuses on establishing sustainable legal and social frameworks, ensuring the integration of legal, environmental, and social factors into reclamation strategies.
The main outcome of the project will be a comprehensive toolkit, including databases and CO2 sequestration calculators, providing valuable data for transforming post-mining areas into productive agricultural lands, with an emphasis on sustainable farming practices.
